The Liminal Space Between Years: Why This Week Feels Different
By Allie Theiss, MSc, CSC, ABS
Energy Worker, Psychic, & Soul Connection Guide
There is a period each year that does not belong entirely to what has been or to what is coming next.
It exists between endings and beginnings, between release and creation.
That stretch is now.
The days between the Winter Solstice and the end of the calendar year sit in a liminal space, an energetic threshold where timelines loosen, emotional residue surfaces, and the soul exhales after months of movement, lessons, and transformation.
If this week feels slower, heavier, quieter, more emotional, or strangely suspended, you are not off-track.
You are exactly where your energy is meant to be.
What the Liminal Space Actually Is
In spiritual and energetic work, liminal space is where:
-
Old identities finish dissolving
-
Lessons integrate into the nervous system
-
Emotional charge drains from experiences
-
Soul contracts quietly close
-
New timelines are seeded — but not yet visible
It is a space of energetic neutrality.
And neutrality can feel unsettling when we are used to intensity, longing, or constant forward motion.
This is why many people feel:
-
Unmotivated but not depressed
-
Tired without being physically ill
-
Emotion without knowing why
-
Detached from goals that once felt urgent
-
Drawn inward without an apparent reason
Nothing is wrong.
Your system is recalibrating.
Why Old Emotions and Memories Resurface
During liminal periods, the subconscious releases stored material that no longer needs to be carried forward.
This can look like:
-
Thinking about people you haven’t considered in years
-
Sudden grief or nostalgia
-
Emotional sensitivity without a clear trigger
-
Vivid dreams
-
Desire to clean, purge, or simplify
-
Feeling finished with things you once chased
These aren’t setbacks.
They’re signs that energetic threads are untying themselves.
When something resurfaces now, it’s usually leaving for good.
Why You’re Not Meant to Manifest Right Now
This is one of the most misunderstood aspects of this week.
The liminal space is not for:
-
Goal setting
-
Big decisions
-
Pushing clarity
-
Forcing desire
-
Mapping the year ahead
Manifestation requires coherence, and coherence can’t happen when the system is still releasing old frequency.
Trying to manifest now often creates:
-
Confusion
-
Anxiety
-
Self-doubt
-
Pressure to “figure it out”
Instead, this week is about energetic composting — letting old matter break down so it can nourish what comes next.
How to Work With the Liminal Space
The most supportive actions right now are simple and subtle:
-
Rest without guilt
-
Spend time alone without isolating
-
Reduce emotional labor
-
Say no to unnecessary stimulation
-
Let desire be quiet
-
Let neutrality be enough
If something doesn’t spark longing or resistance right now, that’s a clue:
it no longer has power over you.
Liminal Space Grounding Practice
You’ll need:
-
Smoky quartz, obsidian, or black tourmaline
-
A quiet, dimly lit space
-
Optional: Cedarwood essential oil
1. Ground the body.
Sit or lie down and place the crystal near your feet or lower belly.
This signals safety to the nervous system.
2. Slow the breath.
Inhale through the nose for 4.
Exhale through the mouth for 6.
Repeat until your shoulders soften.
3. Drop the timeline.
Say silently:
“I release the need to know what comes next.”
4. Stay present.
Do not visualize.
Do not analyze.
Simply notice sensations in the body.
5. Close gently.
Place a hand on your chest and say:
“Integration is happening, even when I cannot see it.”
What Comes After the Liminal Space
When this phase completes, clarity does not trickle in; it arrives.
Desire returns suddenly.
The direction feels obvious.
Energy stabilizes.
Decisions feel clean.
The pause is not empty.
It is pregnant with alignment.
TRUST IT.
