I had a dream with Ben last night – haven’t had one in awhile. He and I were sitting at a table at a Malibu restaurant with Rick and Todd. The 4 of us were talking about how to make people more aware of the importance of dolphins. Ben took a sip of his beer – look at me and said, “I need to ask you something.” “Go right ahead,” was my reply.
“I read your Allie Two Cents blog,” he admitted.
I could feel a lump in my throat at the thought of his next question…
“I’m the Ben in your blog — aren’t I?”
The words hung in the air for a swear seconds – but it felt like the longest seconds of my life.
“What makes you say that?” I asked.
“That’s not an answer.” He said.
He took a sip of his beer, put it down. Arms on the table, hands clasped – he just stared at me.
I really – really wanted to run away. I had to be so careful in how I responded. Because if I did it wrong — it’s Bill and Will all over again.
“Over the years I have found that if someone is in my blog, they have to know it’s them without me telling them that they are in there. If they have a gut feeling that its them – and then they ask me to confirm it. That’s different.”
Ben got this look in his face – he wasn’t sure whether to reach over and throttle me, yell at me or drop the subject. So he sighed, bit his bottom lip and stated…
“I know it’s me.”
“Yes it’s you.”
“That explains a lot” he said.
“Wait a minute,” Rick jumped in, “That means I’m the Rick in the blog — right?”
I gave him a look that suggested – you know I can’t TELL you. Where in the hell have you been?
“Nope – that is me. I know it – that’s me.”
“Are you sure,” I asked.
“Yes, I’m sure. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”
“Yes Rick — it’s you.”
“No hold on here a minute.” Todd chimed, “There’s no _____ in there.”
As soon as he said that – I woke up.
I don’t think my poor heart could take all 3 of them knowing at the same time. Too much. I think them saying what they did made the dream so memorable – plus I know they were there in a dream visit as opposed to me just dreaming about them.
Only time will tell if they actually figure it out. I’m not about to tell them point blank:)
On that note – time for me to get a move on.
